Ponza the queen. Palmarola the wild. Zannone the lonely. Three natural jewels that must be visited by those who love the sea.
Chiaia di Luna, Le Forna, l’Arco naturale lo Spaccapolpi, le Piscine, Cala dell’acqua, i Faraglioni di Maria Rosa, Punta della Guardia with its lighthouse and many other spectacular places make Ponza a magical place.
Opposite, almost uninhabited, Palmarola, the wild. Was defined by Jacques Cousteau one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Also here the landscape riches leave enchanted. Cala del Porto surmounted by the Faraglione di San Silverio (the patron Saint of Ponza), the Scoglio Forcina, the the Cathedral with its superb cliffs, Cala Brigantina and the Faraglioni of noon. Magical places
Last but not least Zannone, less known than Ponza and Palmarola but for this reason an excellent choice to avoid the chaos that often, in summer, characterizes the more famous sisters.
About 22 M to SE of Ponza we meet Ventotene. Here too history and natural beauty come together and the result is superb. Cala Nave with its rocks almost protecting it, Punta dell'Arco, Cala Parata Grande, the Roman harbur and more. In front of the Islet of Santo Stefano with its Bourbon prison today only accessible with organized visits.
Left Ischia behind us, after another 18 M to ESE we get to Capri. To the east of the island we see a few miles away Punta Campanella, the SW end of the Sorrento Peninsula that closes the beautiful scenery of the Golfo di Napoli.
Even this destination, like the Flegree Islands can be easily reached and visited in a week cruise.
The Flegree Islands, Capri and the Sorrento Peninsula do not need any presentation. They have been a destination for international tourism since the 18th century and even today, among the narrow streets of the many villages or in the thousand bays, you can see familiar faces of people who continue to choose these places.
Ischia, due to its size, justifies a visit of a few days. Lacco Ameno, Casamicciola, Porto d'Ischia, the imposing Aragonese Castle and more Sant'Angelo and its beaches, Forio, the bay of San Montano. Even a visit inside can reserve splendid surprises, among all the Mount Epomeo from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
Capri, a world-famous jewel. Marina Grande and the Funicolare, La Grotta Azzurra, the Faraglioni, Marina Piccola, Anacapri, the Solaro Mount, Villa Jovis, the Piazzetta, the Arco Naturale.
To the ENE of Capri, separated by only 2.5 m, we find the Sorrento Peninsula. It too has always been a tourist destination, offering plenty of choice both on the Sorrento and on the one Amalfitano. Wonders like Positano Amalfi, the islets Li Galli Sorrento and a myriad of creeks up to the Path of the Gods. A walk along a path clinging to the rocks that allows you to see the coast from a totally different perspective.
Those above are the easiest destinations to reach considering the normal sailing times of a sailing cruise. Nevertheless, other routes and destinations can be added.
Perhaps a slightly more dynamic crew or a crew with more availability of time could choose more distant destinations. Cilento, the Tuscan Archipelago, the Aeolian Islands, Sardinia and Corsica could be reached after longer trips, which would also allow you to become more in tune with the rhythms of the sea and seagoing.
By this link you can get an idea of the distances and places you would like to reach. It’s a fun game.
